A Subcontractor’s Mistakes Put Erik’s NW Arkansas Project In Danger. Twist & Spout’s Quick Actions Got It Back On Track
Instead Of Wasting Time On Excuses, We Provide Honesty And Timely Solutions
April 7, 2025
Some Northwest Arkansas bath remodeling projects are more complicated than others. In many cases, a single contractor can do all the work. But subcontractors may sometimes be needed to complete specialized tasks.
This was the case on Erik L.’s remodel. As part of a larger project, he requested a detailed tile installation with exacting specifications. To meet his needs, Twist & Spout called on the services of a subcontractor dedicated to this kind of work.
But then the bad news came. The subcontractor botched the job. Suddenly, we were faced with a dilemma – delay the project or find a new tile specialist ASAP.
We knew we had to keep Erik’s project on track, so instead of making excuses, we chose option B. In no time, a new subcontractor was on the job. And this second provider came through with flying colors.
In the end, Erik not only praised our rapid, no-spin response to a crisis. He named Twist & Spout his remodeler of choice for future projects!
Erik’s Extensive Bath Remodeling Plan
Not long ago, Erik contacted Twist & Spout and asked us to redo his master bathroom. This bathroom had several notable issues, so we knew the project would be sizable.
The first thing on Erik’s agenda was a remedy for a leaking shower pan. He also needed new cabinets and help with some wall repairs. What’s more, Erik wanted to install new tile.
On the surface, this looked like any old tile job. But the difficulties of these kinds of projects are often hidden out of sight, where only an expert can tell the difference.
That was the case here. It was an intricate installation that required a specific technical approach.
“We hired Twist & Spout to help us set up and correct our master bathroom. The shower basin had failed, and it was time to set right the poor original build quality. We could not be happier.”
Hiring A Tile Subcontractor For The Bath Remodel
At Twist & Spout, we personally tackle all the required steps on a typical remodeling job. However, every so often, we need to call in outside help for specialized tasks.
At the time, tile installation was still included as one of our remodeling options. When we saw Erik’s plan, we knew we needed a subcontractor to handle this part of the project. So, we contacted a local specialist and made arrangements for them to do the work.
“The job had hiccups, both from us and from them, but that is to be expected. We base our review on how they dealt with the issues and whether the contractor ‘ghosts’ you. It is in this respect that I can state that Twist & Spout is not a typical contractor in many ways, and we have dealt with our fair share in the past to understand that.”
The Subcontractor Botches The Tile Installation
As a rule, we’re very good at picking the right partners for Northwest Arkansas bath remodeling projects. To get hired, these partners must have a proven history of doing great work. They must also be a good fit for the job at hand.
Our chosen contractor aced these key criteria. But unfortunately, this wasn’t enough.
In the middle of the job, Erik reached out to his Twist & Spout contact, Josten, with disappointing news. The tile work performed in his bathroom didn’t meet his stated specifications. It would have to go.
Our No-Excuses Response Surprises Erik
Based on his past experiences with contractors, Erik thought he knew how we’d respond. So he prepared himself to wade through a sea of excuses before he could get the problem corrected.
But as it turned out, we surprised him. At Twist & Spout, we don’t evade responsibility when problems arise. We tackle the situation head-on with honesty and integrity. And that’s exactly what we did for Erik.
“Here is an example of how normal contracted jobs tend to go. Problems arise, and most contractors will attempt to wiggle out of the issue, change the price, or just abandon the client. Our job had serious issues with a sub brought in to handle a very specific tile procedure I requested, not only did Josten come out to rip up the poor job done, they immediately found a tile sub to fill the gap. The new tile company did a wonderful job.”
Hiring A New Tile Specialist
Josten arrived on-site ASAP to rip out the incorrectly installed tile. At the same time, we scoured our list of professional contacts for a new subcontractor capable of meeting Erik’s expectations.
Before project delays could take their toll, we found a suitable replacement. And just like that, the tile installation was back on schedule.
Erik was super-impressed with the new subcontractor’s work. And so were we.
Handling Additional Bath Remodeling Challenges
This wasn’t the only challenge we faced on Erik’s project. As he describes it, his bathroom’s wiring was “a crazy electrical maze.”
Our crew leader, Drew, had to navigate this maze without causing any damage or disruption. It took a bit of figuring, but ultimately, he was successful. We also dealt with several other issues stemming from aging systems throughout the home.
“It is shocking when you get a company that shows you respect, and can be a little disorienting in these times. Honesty is something, as homeowners, we take for granted in these times, and something lost in a lot of contractors. Twist & Spout has restored a lot of faith in that manner. Up front, you are given a price, and even that is done in a very honest way. Our price did not shift unless we made it shift with add-ons. I will hire them again for our kitchen when we decide to push forward, and I have already advised everyone I come into contact with looking for work to be done to reach out.”

Erik’s Five-Star Response To His Remodeled Bathroom

But the opposite was true. Erik gave us kudos on every phase of his Northwest Arkansas project. From the way we provide our initial estimates to the final results of our work, we made the grade for him and his household.
